Ashikaga park
If you happened to be in Japan in between mid April to mid May, you may venture to the Ashikaga Park, to see 350 amazing wisteria trees in full bloom. This majestic tree with propped up branches cover over 1,000 square meters and is 150 years old. It resembles a ‘Soul tree’ from the ‘Avatar’ movie.
It was here, in the park, that I received the strongest and most unforgettable impressions for my entire stay in Japan.
Apart from the usual purple, you can see yellow and white wisteria tunnels, pale red trees, white wisteria walls and much more...
I spent the whole day there and felt like on another planet.
At the same time of year thousands bushes of azalea
and rhododendrons of various colours are blooming,
as well as lupines and other flowers.
How to get there: It is situated in Tochigi Prefecture, about 70 minutes away from Tokyo. The park is a 15-minute walk from Tomita Station. Check the official website for more info.
